All foreign nationals, except Indian citizens, are required to have a valid visa to enter Nepal. Visa can be obtained as “Visa on Arrival” or by visiting the Nepalese Consulate office to avoid hassle after long flight. Consulate General of Nepal in New South Wales, located at 9 Napier Street, North Sydney can help you get visa for your next visit to Nepal. You can visit in person or send all required documents by mail.


Honorary Consulate General of Sydney is authorised to issue Tourist Visas in following categories:

Note: Children under the age of 10 will not be charged for the visa valid up to 30 days, however, urgent/ same day visa surcharge of $25 AUD will apply for the children as well.

Important :

  • You must have valid passport with  minimum 6 month of validity before the issuance of visa and  on the day you are visiting Nepal.
  • If you do not visit country within the validity of visa that is within 6 months, visa will be cancelled.
  • Visa fee is non-refundable. Visa once issued cannot be withdrawn and visa fee cannot be refunded. It must be used within six months from the date of issue.

Requirements for Tourist Visa Application

In order to issue visa from Consulate office, you can either mail your documents or visit our office.

Applying via Post

  1. Duly filled in Visa Application Form .
  2. Valid Original Passport (at least for six months from the day of entry in Nepal).
  3. One standard size passport photograph attached to your form.
  4. A prepaid return envelope with tracking number and sufficient postage to return passports. (if you  are sending documents by couriers/post).
  5. A money order payable to the Consulate General of Nepal, NSW. (Two or more applicant can send single money order for multiple person visa fee. Personal checks, cash and credit cards are NOT acceptable).

Note: Consulate General would not be responsible for the loss or damage of document send via mail/post. Applicants are required to send prepaid return envelope with tracking number to return back passports with visa. Consulate is not responsible for any undelivered passport/s because of the insufficient postage, a weak envelope to bear up the load and other incidents occurred during handling of the documents by couriers/post.


Applying in Person (Visiting Our Office)

You can always visit our office and have it done in person. Please bring all the following required documents while visiting our office for visa:

  1. Duly filled in  Visa Form
  2. Valid Original Passport (at least for six months from the day of entry in Nepal).
  3. One standard size passport photograph.
  4. Visa fee as applicable payable by cash, eftpos or by bank cheque/money order. Personal cheques and credit cards will not be accepted.


Visa application can be submitted in person from 9 am to 2.30 pm in the Consulate general office on weekdays from Monday – Thursday except public holidays. Note: Lunch break time: 12:30-1:00.

*For the same day or Urgent Visa processing there will be an additional charge of $25.00 AUD. Normally, Visa will be  processed within 7 days from the date of application received by the Consulate.  For “Same day/Urgent visa” please apply in person. Download application form.

Visa Extension

A tourist visa can be extended up to 120 days from the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and Pokhara Immigration Office on request. Thereafter an additional 30 days can be extended from Department of Immigration ensuring that tourist visa cannot be extended more than 150 days.
